A Tamale is a traditional Mesoamerican dish made of masa (a starchy dough, usually corn-based), which is steamed or boiled in a leaf wrapper. The wrapping is discarded before eating. Tamales have been traced back to the Ancient Maya people, who prepared them for feasts as early as the Preclassic period (1200–250 BC).
The tamales will be:
Filled with pork in red sauce
Filled with chili strips with red sauce and melted cheese
Sweet dough filled with mermelade and raisins.
Notice that lard (Schweinefett, Schmalz) is used in the preparation of this dish.
Price: 5 CHF each tamale
Recommended portion: 2-3 pieces, 4 for the brave
